Re: Exclusive: Democrats Drop "God" From Party Platform
Ok, I'm late to the party but what does the term "god-given" add to the statement that goes beyond merely appeasing the fragile egos of the religious?
What does this state:
That this does not:
Anything at all? Or are we just looking for tokenism here?
But isn't expecting, no demanding, special rights and priveleges - even deference for their beliefs - against the constitution? It seems to me that the Christians for whom this is a problem are just looking for another ego massage. Seriously, they need to grow up. Is their faith so fragile that the mission statement of a political party they most likely will not support can upset them so easily?
What does this state:
“We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.”

There is no conflict between supporting faith-based institutions and respecting our Constitution, and a full commitment to both principles is essential for the continued flourishing of both faith and country.
