2010: The Year Of The Moocher

Neal Boortz
December 17, 2010

Though the Tea Party may not be Time Magazine's "person" of the year, there was one class of people that they forgot to consider for the title: the moochers. Thanks to a struggling economy, 2010 has been an unprecedented year for the moocher class. This is a class that will define the future of our country, not because of something that they have produced but because of what they have taken from the producers. Some come by it honestly - times are tough, people are out of jobs, businesses aren't hiring even the most qualified of applicants.

For those people who are having a rough go of it, I sincerely wish you and your families a Merry Christmas. May your perseverance pay off in the New Year. But there are some for whom I have zero sympathy. These are the perpetual moochers who got themselves into this position because of poor decision making, a lack of work ethic, or a general lack of desire to be a productive member of society - and those will be the people who will stay in the moocher class when our economy recovers. Here are some stats for 2010...

  • Nearly half of all Americans live in a household in which someone receives government benefits. (Source)
  • About 47 percent will paid no federal income taxes at all for 2009. (Source). If you paid no federal income taxes .. and you aren't retired ... you're a moocher.
  • The
White House predicts that since October, one eighth of the population - or an average of 43.3 million people - will receive food stamps each month. (Source). Moochers, unless you're in the armed forces .. then you're underpaid.
  • One out of every seven mortgages in the United States was either delinquent or in foreclosure during the first quarter of 2010. (Source)

Now, about that class of moocher for which I have zero sympathy ... the perpetual moocher ... click on this link. Go ahead, click on it, and look real closely at the picture featured with the article. Do you see it? The picture shows Raymeica Kelly holding up two powers bills, power bills that were not paid by YOU, the taxpayers, because she was turned away from the Energy Assistance Program. But what is that pesky object sitting right behind Raymeica Kelly? Why, could it be....... a big screen television?? And what's that under her big screen television...... an X-box video game system! How much do those suckers cost? A few hundred bucks. And what about the games, how much are those? And the TV? What does she watch on that TV? Does that cost her something too? If she can't pay her power bill, every one of these items should be sold before she comes mooching off the taxpayers.

Are you seeing my point here, folks? I am just so sick to damn death of these entitlement whores, these moochers who believe that the money that you worked for somehow belongs to them. Just for kicks, let me remind you of what it means to be "poor" in America, according to our Census Bureau.

  • Forty-six percent of all poor households actually own their own homes. The average home owned by persons classified as poor by the Census Bureau is a three bedroom house with one and a half baths, a garage, and a porch or patio.
  • Seventy-six percent of poor households have air conditioning. By contrast, 30 years ago, only 36 percent of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.
  • Only 6 percent of poor households are overcrowded. More than two thirds have more than two rooms per person.
  • The average poor American has more living space than the average individual living in Paris, London, Vienna, Athens, and other cities throughout Europe. (These comparisons are to the average citizens in foreign countries, not to those classified as poor.)
  • Nearly three quarters of poor households own a car; 30 percent own two or more cars.
  • Ninety-seven percent of poor households have a color television; over half own two or more color televisions.
  • Seventy-eight percent have a VCR or DVD player; 62 percent have cable or satellite TV reception.
  • Seventy-three percent own microwave ovens, more than half have a stereo, and a third have an automatic dishwasher.
Here's to hoping that the 112th Congress will get this country back on track, thanks to your efforts in November. Here's to hoping that Barack Obama goes back to doing what he does best - community organizing. And here's to hoping that Angelina Jolie finally comes to her senses and realizes that those tattoos are a real turnoff.
