. . . This isn’t the first time Gingrich has dubbed Obama the “food stamp president.” But the former Speaker’s comments on the program itself are only half correct.

It is true that the number of Americans who rely on food stamps is at a record high. Nearly 46 million Americans received benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — better known as food stamps — this year, the highest number in recorded history. But experts attribute that mainly to the weak economy and high unemployment. Additionally, George W. Bush’s administration expanded eligibility for food stamps to get more Americans to apply, which also contributed to an increase in recipients.

“It’s hard to determine how much blame Obama deserves compared to his predecessor, President George W. Bush, but the experts we spoke to, conservative and liberal, agree Obama inherited a serious situation,” Politifact said in a fact check earlier this year. “The experts we spoke to agreed that both policies began under Bush but were retained by Obama.”

The idea that administrators are not working to cut fraud, however, can also be challenged.

The Department of Agriculture, which administers the program, contracts with a computer firm to analyze food stamp purchases to root out fraud, for which it has received kudos from the Government Accountability Office. USDA says it uses an electronic anti-fraud system to monitor electronic transaction activity and identify suspicious stores for analysis and investigation, which has helped it catch more fraud cases.

The USDA estimates that payment accuracy is at a record high of 96 percent.

The agency “has taken advantage of electronic benefit transfer to reduce fraud, and in response to prior GAO recommendations, has implemented new technology and categorized stores based on risk to improve its ability to detect trafficking and disqualify retailers who traffic,” stated a July 2010 report by the GAO. . . .

It's sad when you have to lie about the President to seem like a worthy candidate.

Obama inherited a tough situation and made it a much worse situation. And I'm sure Obama never lies when he gives his many speeches. Snicker

Obama lies in every single speech he gives. If his lips are moving you know he's lying.

And he has to lie, that is the only way he can keep what little support he might yet have in the center.

Obama's true agenda is so anti-American, so counter to constitutional republicanism and free market capitalism that he would never have even won his primary race had he not lied nakedly and often.

Just look at what a flap it created when, in one his rare unscripted teleprompterless moments, he confessed his redistributionist leanings to Joe the plumber.

Of course Obama is lying. That goes without saying.

Under Obama: With his spending (spent more than all Presidents), he added 4 Trillion to the debt and counting, his stimulus bill failed, that only created government jobs and didn't lower unemployment like he promised it would, but made it go up from 7.3 to 9.1 and now millions have stopped looking for a job. And don't forget about the super majorities the Dems had for TWO years, where they could and did what they wanted.

That IS a fact - at least it is for anyone paying attention.

But since you don't appear to be one of those paying attention, allow me to refresh your memory.

Obama promised to cut the deficit in half in his 1st term (something never intended to do); so far he has run TRILLION+ dollar deficits every year he's been in office - deficits nearly 3 times Bush's highest deficit year - lie #1.

He said he would eliminate the practice of placing earmarks in legislation; his first bill, the "stimulus" bill contained over 900 earmarks - lie #2.

He said he would would not allow former lobbyists to serve in his administration; he has in fact issued "waivers" to a number of former lobbyists in his administration, including (among others) William Lynn, Deputy Secretary of Defense, who was a lobbyist for defense contractor Raytheon - lie#3.

He said that all debates on his healthcare "reform" bill would be held in the open and aired on C-Span; they were not. In fact, the bill was jammed through in the dark of night using an improper mechanism (reconciliation - which is supposed to only be used on budgets) - lie #4.

He said that all proposed legislation would be made available on the internet for 5 days prior to action so the American people could study it and offer feedback; this never happened and was so violated that we had Nancy Pelosi saying about the healthcare "reform" bill that we'd "have to pass it to see what's in it" - BIG lie #5.

I could be at this for days, but my thumbs are getting tired.

Suffice it to say Obama's been lying his ass off since launching his campaign and he hasn't stopped for even a second.
