Number 1: The Medieval Warming period.

One of the most repeated myths of the denialists is the assertion that the Medieval Warming Period was warmer than it is today. They never back it up.

A quick look at the data shows that they are wrong:

http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/globalwarming/medieval.html

Furthermore, it appears that the MWP has only been measured for the North Atlantic area (see figure 4 in this paper) http://www.eos.ubc.ca/~mjelline/453website/eosc453/E_prints/2003RG000143.pdf

Number 2: Ice Levels are Increasing

Another of the denialist lies is that ice sheets are growing - ergo warming is not happening.

This 2006 study by NASA shows that there was a significant loss in ice levels between 2002-5: http://www.nasa.gov/home/hqnews/2006/mar/HQ_06085_arctic_ice.html

Number 3: There is no consensus

Apparently, very few actual scientists believe in the MYTH of global warming, and very few actual scientific institutes because we KNOW the MYTH is being perpetrated by the liberal media and America's "enemies".

All this of course is male bovine excrement. Here is a list of all the scientific institutes that accept the TRUTH of human actions impacting the climate.

Academia Brasiliera de Ciências (Bazil)
Royal Society of Canada
Chinese Academy of Sciences
Academié des Sciences (France)
Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina (Germany)
Indian National Science Academy
Accademia dei Lincei (Italy)
Science Council of Japan
Russian Academy of Sciences
Royal Society (United Kingdom)
National Academy of Sciences (United States of America)
Australian Academy of Sciences
Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and the Arts
Caribbean Academy of Sciences
Indonesian Academy of Sciences
Royal Irish Academy
Academy of Sciences Malaysia
Academy Council of the Royal Society of New Zealand
Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences
NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS)
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
National Academy of Sciences (NAS)
State of the Canadian Cryosphere (SOCC)
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Royal Society of the United Kingdom (RS)
American Geophysical Union (AGU)
American Institute of Physics (AIP)
National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)
American Meteorological Society (AMS)
Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS)

And if we are talking about scientific communities away from national boundaries: http://tigger.uic.edu/~pdoran/012009_Doran_final.pdf a 2009 survey and http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2010/06/04/1003187107.full.pdf+html survey from 2010.

And look at the problems with the lack of relevant qualifications within the denialist crowd: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=climate-expertise-lacking-among-global-warming-contrarians

Okay so if there is NO CONSENSUS!!!!!!!!, and the above list has signed a declaration of human impact on the climate and two separate surveys show over 90% of active researchers agree... somebody please explain what would a consensus look like?

There is an interesting article >>here<< that explains scientific consensus.

And an explanatory video about how sure scientists are:

Number 4: The hockey stick graph was fraudulent

Undoubtedly, Mann made errors in his original study but to claim that this makes the whole study, and indeed the whole of climate science "fraudulent" is wishful thinking at best and outright fraudulent itself at worst.

Despite this, studies were conducted by several scientific institutes who found the graph plausible despite the errors. Further data was imposed into the set and published in later articles. Mann himself published a correction in Nature and the graph did not look much different from the first.

Number 5: No warming since 1998

1998 was the hottest year on record thanks to a freak El Nino. However, these freak events should not be relied upon to provide global trends. That is where the global average temperatures come in. There was of course, a slight dip and then a resuming of warming.

Number 6: No degrees in climate science

One of the most bizarre claims made by the lunatic fringe of the right wing is that climate science is a sham science made up of non-experts because there are no degrees in climate related science.

For starters "geography", one subject that most schoolchildren study as part of the UK curriculum, is an environmental science. Elements of that covers weather and climate.

UCAS (Universities & Colleges Admissions Service) provides a current up to date list of available undergraduate and postgraduate degrees for UK student. Here is the UCAS search facility list for "Climate" for entry in 2010 to Universities in the UK.

http://search.ucas.com/cgi-bin/hsrun/search/search/StateId/Q2_dcwoo79CNt8UTuhKBtdJyV5GgI-4lLP/HAHTpage/search.HsKeywordSuggestion.whereNext?query=121&word=CLIMATE&single=N

Here is a course finder for the USA. Put "climate" into the search box and see a list of subdivisions.

Number 7: Scepticism is growing in academic circles

Over 90% of active researchers still say humans are having an effect on the climate. It rises the more qualified and more active in research they are.

Check out figure 1 in this paper from 2009:

It seems that the debate on the authenticity of global warming and the role played by human activity is largely nonexistent among those who understand the nuances and scientific basis of long-term climate processes. The challenge, rather, appears to be how to effectively communicate this fact to policy makers and to a public that continues to mistakenly perceive debate among scientists

http://tigger.uic.edu/~pdoran/012009_Doran_final.pdf

And this paper from 2010 from an independent study still claims 97-98% http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2010/06/04/1003187107.full.pdf+html

Both papers are open source, so you can read each study in its entirety.

Number 8: Increased CO2 can only be good for the planet, it is not a pollutant

As with anything, too much of something is always bad. We need food to survive but if we eat too much we get fat and suffer heart disease. Too much salt is as bad for our bodies as too little. The same is true of the climate. Of course we need CO2, which is vital to all plant life but there is overwhelming evidence that there is too much in the atmosphere and it is damaging fragile ecosystems.

What both denialists and proponents can agree on is that the oceans are a carbon sink. What denialists fail to realise is that that carbon doesn't just disappear without any consequence.

Increased carbon emissions is increasing ocean acidification and killing coral http://www.tos.org/oceanography/issues/issue_archive/issue_pdfs/20_2/20.2_caldeira.pdf

And moisture levels in the soil: http://www.nature.com/ngeo/journal/v4/n1/full/ngeo1032.html

Plankton (a vital food supply for many marine species) is being damaged, as is the availability of commercial fish species as they cannot cope with acidification http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/co2/OA/Ocean_Acidification%20FINAL.pdf

It is claimed that global warming can/is extending the growing period for our core crops. We have seen an increase in crop failure as a result of climate change: http://iopscience.iop.org/1748-9326/5/3/034012/. Number 9: 'They' predicted global cooling in the 1970s!

Not so much a lie as an attempt to paint all scientists everywhere as blithering idiots who don't have the first clue about anything. A wonder then that they have the intelligence to organise a conspiracy, let alone advance technology and medicine.

In fact 'they' did not predict global cooling, at least not in any numbers worth noting.

The lies that climate change denialists tell GlobalCooling

A 2008 study was a literature survey that attempted to find out what the consensus was: http://ams.confex.com/ams/pdfpapers/131047.pdf. The author of that article came up with 7 such articles from the period 1965-1979 with over 60 papers predicted warming.

What did happen (as still happens today) was that the media siezed upon a single book and this handful of papers and blew the issue out of all proportion. What followed was a succession of articles in Newsweek and Time about the impending Ice Age with no right of reply from the actual scientific consensus.

So, Rush Limbaugh and his fellow conspiracy theorists are railing against the people who pay their wages... and making the same mistakes. Good job guys!

Number 10 (or 8a): Human CO2 emissions are too insignificant to make any impact on the climate

uh-huh.

Ample physical evidence shows that carbon dioxide (CO2) is the single most important climate-relevant greenhouse gas in Earth’s atmosphere. This is because CO2, like ozone, N2O, CH4, and chlorofluorocarbons, does not condense and precipitate from the atmosphere at current climate temperatures, whereas water vapor can and does. Noncondensing greenhouse gases, which account for 25% of the total terrestrial greenhouse effect, thus serve to provide the stable temperature structure that sustains the current levels of atmospheric water vapor and clouds via feedback processes that account for the remaining 75% of the greenhouse effect. Without the radiative forcing supplied by CO2 and the other noncondensing greenhouse gases, the terrestrial greenhouse would collapse, plunging the global climate into an icebound Earth state.

Number 11: Duh, it's the sun!

We all know about the burning ball of gas at the centre of the solar system that provides heat and light to this planet that makes all life possible.

Denialists claim that the current warming phase (now that they actually admit that it is happening) is because of the sun. There are major problems with this because of course, as all the data shows us, the sun has been cooling for the last few decades and the temperature of this planet continues to climb.

There are a number of papers that demonstrate that our star has been cooling for several decades:
http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/1995/94JA02897.shtml
http://rspa.royalsocietypublishing.org/content/464/2094/1387.abstract

http://www.pmodwrc.ch/pmod.php?topic=tsi/composite/SolarConstant
http://ieg.or.kr/abstractII/G0102523037.PDF

A (very technical) comparison of the forcing behind global warming is here: http://www.cawcr.gov.au/staff/jma/meehl_solar.pdf

Denialists need to explain why nights are warming faster than days if the sun is the cause: http://www.knmi.nl/publications/fulltexts/global_extremes_for_jgr.pdf

The list above is not exhaustive but what is clear from the data is that the sun HAS been cooling and has just bottomed out on its cycle. It will start to warm again very soon. Through this cooling period temperatures have continued to climb... so we must find another mechanism.

Number 12: The atmosphere is not sensitive to CO2

Wrong. There is a mass of data to show that the climate is highly sensitive to elevated C02 levels and we have known that since 1861 when THIS paper was published.

In more recent times, there have been decades worth of CO2 measurements: http://agwobserver.wordpress.com/2009/09/25/papers-on-laboratory-measurements-of-co2-absorption-properties/

These two papers
http://spiedl.aip.org/getabs/servlet/GetabsServlet?prog=normal&id=PSISDG005543000001000164000001&idtype=cvips&gifs=yes&ref=no
http://www.eumetsat.int/Home/Main/Publications/Conference_and_Workshop_Proceedings/groups/cps/documents/document/pdf_conf_p50_s9_01_harries_v.pdf
Are the most accurate measurements yet of the greenhouse impact of CO2 emissions.

This paper studies the CO2 changes in the Middle Eocene Climatic Optimum: http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/330/6005/819 and the sensitivities are clear.

Number 13: What harm can a few degrees increase do anyway?

Any quoted figure will be a global average and will affect different areas in different ways, affecting crops and biodiversity. Firstly the 2 degrees celsius was a very optimistic prediction.

The dangers of a 4 degree increase are explained here: http://rsta.royalsocietypublishing.org/content/369/1934/6.abstract

An increase even of 2 degrees will cause permafrost and arctic ice to melt, releasing a lot more CO2 into the atmosphere. See previous entries for the dangers of that. Also, despite all claims that the growing period will increase for a vast number of crops has actually reduced crop yields. See previous entries for data.

A few degrees will also increase the melt rate of ice sheets, affecting the North Atlantic Gulf Stream. The result of diluting the saline will slow it down, causing temperatures to drop in winter for North America and western Europe. It was this slowing down that is believed to have resulted in the LIA: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v444/n7119/full/nature05277.html

Number 14 (or 5a): The planet is cooling

A bizarre claim that is being made all across the denialist media at the moment and I've no idea where they get this data from. I can imagine that somebody has made the claim and it is being pounced on by successive third-rate hacks (and even some real journalists) desperate to share their font of knowledge.

Anyway, skeptical science blog has this article with a compilation of all data sets across many articles showing the temperature change over the last 120 years.

The planet is cooling they say...

The lies that climate change denialists tell Temperature_Composite_500

2010 "hottest year on record" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12241692.

Although December was exceptionally cold in some places - the coldest for 100 years across the UK - other regions, such as Greenland and eastern Canada, saw unseasonably warm weather.

The WMO notes a number of extreme weather events ocurring during 2010, including:

* the summer heatwave in Russia
* severe monsoon-related floods in Pakistan
* the worst Amazon drought in recent memory.

Agencies including the UK Met Office suggest 2011 is likely to be cooler on average than 2010, as La Nina conditions dominate.

The variation between El Nino and La Nina can alter the global temperature by half a degree or so.

The lies that climate change denialists tell Empty Re: The lies that climate change denialists tell

Post by The_Amber_Spyglass Fri Dec 31, 2010 10:23 am

It has been quite a lucrative year for those digging up lies and misinformation spread by the denialist crowd. Skeptical Science has the top 5 awards for BS in 2010.

2010 saw widespread and growing evidence of rapidly warming global climate and strengthening scientific understanding of how humans are contributing to climate change. Yet on the policy front, little happened to stem the growing emissions of greenhouse gases or to help societies prepare for increasingly severe negative climate impacts, including now unavoidable changes in temperature, rainfall patterns, sea-level rise, snowpack, glacial extent, Arctic sea ice, and more. These physical impacts will lead to sharply increased disease, military and economic instabilities, food and water shortages, and extreme weather events, among other things. Without appropriate risk management action, the United States will be hit hard. There is no safe haven. Yet confusion and uncertainty about climate change remain high in the minds of too many members of the public and Congress.

Why? In large part because of a concerted, coordinated, aggressive campaign by a small group of well-funded climate change deniers and contrarians focused on intentionally misleading the public and policymakers with bad science about climate change. Much of this effort is based on intentional falsehoods, misrepresentations, inflated uncertainties, and pure and utter B.S. about climate science. These efforts have been successful in sowing confusion and delaying action – just as the same tactics were successful in delaying efforts to tackle tobacco’s health risks.

To counter this campaign of disinformation, we are issuing the first in what may become a series of awards for the most egregious Climate B.S.* of the Year. In preparing the list of nominees, suggestions were received from around the world and a panel of reviewers – all scientists or climate communicators – waded through them. We present here the top five nominees and the winner of the 2010 Climate B.S.* of the Year Award.

Fifth Place. Climate B.S. and misrepresentations presented by Fox “News.”

There are many examples of bad science, misrepresentations, omissions of facts, and distortions of climate reality coming from Fox “News” (far too many to list here, but we note that Joe Romm just gave Fox his 2010 Citizen Kane Award for “non-excellence in journalism” for their misrepresentations of climate science). It seems that Fox has now made it their policy to deny the reality of climate change and has told its reporters to misreport or cast doubt on the science. This policy of disinformation was implemented by Fox News executive Bill Sammon, who ordered staff to cast doubt on climate data in a memo revealed this month. Fox’s political commentators have long used this tactic in their one-sided and biased discussions on climate change but Sammon’s memo seems to direct News staff to slant reporting in direct contradiction to what the scientific facts and scientists actually say.

Fourth Place. Misleading or false testimony to Congress and policymakers about climate change.

While Congress held more hearings in 2010 on climate change than in other recent years, these hearings elicited some astounding testimonies submitted by climate deniers and skeptics filled with false and misleading statements about climate science and total B.S. Examples?

Long-time climate change skeptic Patrick Michaels testified before the House Science and Technology Committee and misrepresented the scientific understanding of the human role in climate change and the well-understood effects of fundamental climatic factors, such as the effects of visible air pollution. Including these effects (as climate scientists have done for many years) would have completely changed his results. Michaels has misrepresented mainstream climate science for decades, as has been noted here, here, and elsewhere, yet he remains a darling of the skeptics in Congress who like his message.

A newer darling of Congressional climate change deniers is Christopher Monckton, who claims to be a member of the British House of Lords (a claim rejected by the House of Lords). Monckton testified before a Senate committee in May and presented such outlandish B.S. about climate that experts (such as John Mashey, Tim Lambert, John Abraham, and Barry Bickmore, to name a few) spent uncounted hours and pages and pages refuting just a subset of his errors.

Third Place. The false claim that a single weather event, such as a huge snowstorm in Washington, D.C., proves there is no global warming.

In February 2010 a big winter storm dumped record piles of snow on the mid-Atlantic U.S., including Washington, Baltimore, and Philadelphia, prompting climate change deniers to use bad weather to try to discredit the reality of global warming. Limbaugh said, “It's one more nail in the coffin for the global warming thing.” Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe got attention with an igloo on the national mall and labeled it “Al Gore's new home” (combining bad science with a personal attack). Senator Jim DeMint said, “It's going to keep snowing in DC until Al Gore cries ‘uncle.’”

Record snowfall is not an indicator of a lack of global warming, as has been pointed out in the scientific literature and many, many rounds of Congressional testimony. It merely means that there was a storm and temperatures were close to or below freezing. Indeed global warming can contribute to greater snowfalls by providing extra moisture. Many scientists testifying before the Senate and House of Representatives have explained the difference between a steadily warming planet and occasional extreme cold events in particular spots. But we can expect to see more examples of this kind of B.S. when it gets cold and snowy somewhere, sometime, this winter.

Second Place. The claim that the “Climategate” emails meant that global warming was a hoax, or was criminal, as Senator Inhofe tried to argue. In fact, it was none of these things (though the British police are still investigating the illegal hacking of a British university’s computer system and the theft of the emails).

Global warming deniers used out-of-context texts from the stolen emails to claim that global warming was a hoax or that scientists had manipulated data or were hiding evidence that climate change wasn’t happening. These claims are all B.S. A series of independent scientific and academic investigations in the U.S. and the U.K. unanimously concluded that nothing in the stolen emails made any difference to the remarkable strength of climate science (see, for example, the Penn State vindication, the Independent Muir Russell and Lord Oxburgh reviews, a British Parliamentary Panel review, and other assessments). Unfortunately, the media gave far more attention to the accusations than to the resounding vindications, and climate deniers continue to spread B.S. about this case.

The bottom line of “Climategate?” As a letter in Science magazine signed by 255 members of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences said in May 2010: “there is nothing remotely identified in the recent events that changes the fundamental conclusions about climate change.”

AND THE WINNER OF THE 2010 CLIMATE B.S.* OF THE YEAR AWARD

First Place goes to the following set of B.S.: “There has been no warming since 1998” [or 2000, or…], “the earth is cooling,” “global warming is natural,” and “humans are too insignificant to affect the climate.” Such statements are all nonsense and important for the general public to understand properly.

The reality is that the Earth’s climate is changing significantly, changing fast, and changing due to human factors. The reality of climatic change can no longer be disputed on scientific grounds – the U.S. National Academy of Sciences calls the human-induced warming of the Earth a “settled fact.” The evidence for a “warming” planet includes not just rising temperatures, but also rising sea levels, melting Arctic sea ice, disappearing glaciers, increasing intense rainfalls, and many other changes that matter to society and the environment. The recent and ongoing warming of the Earth is unprecedented in magnitude, speed, and cause.

This winning set of B.S. appears almost daily in the conservative blogosphere, like here and here and here, consistently in the statements of climate change deniers, and far too often in real media outlets. Actual science and observations from around globe have long shown the opposite (for example, here and here are nice rebuttals with real science). The planet continues to warm rapidly largely due to human activities, and average global temperatures continue to rise. The most recent decade has been the warmest decade on record and 2010 will likely go down as either the warmest or second warmest year in recorded history.

Associated B.S. argues that the famous “hockey stick” graph has been disproved. This graph shows the extraordinarily rapid warming of the twentieth century compared to the previous 1000 years. The graph and analysis have been upheld by subsequent researchers and numerous scientific assessments, including one from the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.

To the winners: congratulations, it is long past time your B.S. is recognized for what it is – bad science.

And to the public and the media: be forewarned: all of these and similar bad arguments will certainly be repeated in 2011. It is long past time that this bad science is identified, challenged, and shown to be the B.S. that it is.

Number 15: A climategate special

The oft repeated criticisms against the hacked climate data has been explained by knowledgeable scientists again and again but still the right wing hacks repeat the same nonsense pointing to a deliberate conspiracy to hide the truth that climate change is not happening.

This is just a link to skeptical science discussing the issues that simply won't go away.

Number 16: The weather guys keep getting the weather wrong, how can they ever be right about long term trends?

The two are completely unrelated for starters:
* They look at completely different types of evidence
* Short term weather is unpredictable and the slightest variation can change what looked certain just a few hours previously

Climate modelling is highly accurate. In 1988, a paper by Hansen et al http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/docs/1988/1988_Hansen_etal.pdf predicted temperature rises between then and 2020. So far, these predictions have been remarkable (not so to people who understand the evidence) in their accuracy: http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/docs/2006/2006_Hansen_etal_1.pdf

This graph: (from this paper) http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/docs/2007/2007_Rahmstorf_etal.pdf

The lies that climate change denialists tell Rahmstorf

shows that apparent "doom mongers" of the IPCC actually underestimated warming trends.

Number 17: Other planets are warming too i.e. It is the Sun

Specifically, Mars and Pluto.

More specifically, the Mars premise has been created by two comparable images of the ice cap (the same glacier) in one small part of the Martian geography. Mars' orbit is more erratic than Earth's so we have to account for greater variability to start with.

Global dust storms are common and affect the climate, adding rogue data with frustrating regularity: http://spacespin.org/article.php/71228-mars-express-dust-storm that can take over a Martian year to return the climate to normal levels. http://www.gps.caltech.edu/uploads/File/People/mir/Szwast_JGR2005JE002485.pdf

With all these variables in mind, there is no evidence that Mars is experiencing global warming. Mars climate system is far more sensitive to individual weather events and without serious long term study (not just one photograph) it is a bold statement to claim that Mars is warming.

For a thorough rebuttal, go here

Pluto is a different kettle of fish altogether. It has the most elliptical orbit in our solar system (and for half of its year is inside the orbit of Neptune) and takes 248 Earth years to do a complete circuit. It is so cold that its atmosphere is frozen and defrosts when it gets within the orbital plane of Neptune. There is simply not enough data... and we probably won't have any for the next 1000 years to claim that Pluto has warmed. So to suggest that Pluto is warming on the basis of such flimsy data would be to take measurements in one small section of our own planet over a 7 day period and determining global trends.

Number 18: Scientists under pressure to produce favourable results

Specifically, governments and the IPCC are bribing individuals, university departments and organisations to produce results favourable to "AGW alarmism" and threatening them with loss of funding for publishing dissenting views. There is zero evidence for this but what we do have is an incredibly concerning movement from industry to do the opposite

Exxon-Mobil funding political pressure groups, bypassing the scientific method: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2006/sep/19/ethicalliving.g2

And they are not the only ones: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2005/jan/27/environment.science

Bribes by Exxon-Mobil funded groups: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2007/feb/02/frontpagenews.climatechange

The coal lobby is at it too: http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/GlobalWarming/story?id=2242565&page=1

The names quoted in this memo are in the pay of US energy companies: http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/GlobalWarming/story?id=2242565&page=1

Exxon-Mobil uses the same tactics as the tobacco denialists: http://www.ucsusa.org/global_warming/science_and_impacts/global_warming_contrarians/exxonmobil-report-smoke.html

More underhand tactics: http://web.archive.org/web/20070303080433/http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/07/27/ap/tech/mainD8J4GH300.shtml

Yet it is the scientists who are being accused of conspiracy...?

Number 19: Look! Over 900 papers from climate sceptics!!!!!!!!1!11!!!!!!

In the grand scheme of things, 900 papers isn't a huge amount. However, when confronted by this claim, please ask for the titles of the 900 papers. Climate scientists have, and the results are intriguing...

Firstly, most of these papers are heavily slanted in favour of just a handful of writers... and guess what? They have links with a business that calls their scientific integrity into doubt. Sherwood Idso is the most prolific of names in this list and he heads a think-tank funded by climate science saboteurs... who else but Exxon-Mobil. Patrick Michaels, also a prolific author in this list receives 40% of his research funding from the oil industry.

And the denialists accuse the climate researchers of conspiracy.

Moving on then...

Climate scientists have complained that their research has been misrepresented by those Exxon-Mobil lackeys the denialist movement and many more are not even about climate change.

Thirdly, the journal that a good proportion of the articles appear in is "Energy and Environment". The editor admits to following a "political agenda" and for this, the "journal" (which does not appear on ISI and is in all likelihood not peer reviewed) has earned itself the title the journal of scepticism. It is also amongst one of the least cited journals in academia.

The denialist crowd, clearly, are going to extreme lengths to avoid the peer review process.

All that proves is that you do not understand the scientific method and how the research and publication system works. How can you condone Exxon-Mobil's dishonest and underhand tactics?

Oh, and your whole unsourced and baseless "government conspiracy" paradigm is handled in number 18. Thank you.

So you condone the actions of Exxon-Mobil despite claims that your side has a monopoly and honesty and scientific integrity and everybody on my side is involved in a planet-wide conspiracy to defraud (specifically) Americans of their freedoms?

Anybody who thinks they can overturn climate science (97% of active researchers) will in all likelihood get a Nobel Prize.

You never responded to my statement about government funding. Do you see it as pure as the driven snow and certainly not suspect in the least?

The corruption you allege is inherent in corporate sponsorship of research could never, ever occur within government dependent research efforts.

The paper purporting to find fault with the "900 papers" is an arm of the IPCC.

Sorry Matt, but as they say in my neck of the woods... that dog won't hunt.

In the real world - and your scientists live in the real world - no one and no process is immune to corruption.
