Cain says Christie too liberal for conservatives

WASHINGTON — Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain says New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is too liberal for conservative Republicans.

Republicans unhappy with the current field of GOP presidential contenders have been urging Christie to run. Christie has resisted becoming a candidate, but those close to the governor say he is reconsidering his decision to stay out of the race.

Cain tells "Fox News Sunday" that many conservatives won't support Christie once they find out about his views on global warming, illegal immigrants and gun control.

Christie has broken with traditional conservative views on some issues. He has voiced support for some gun control, has said being in the country without proper documentation is not a crime, and has called climate change real and partially manmade.

I saw that show, and if it is true that Christie took those positions, then it would definitely hurt him in the primaries. I certainly would not support him over Cain.

But if he became the GOP nom, you'd support and vote for him. Or do you change to Obama?

Oh, there is NO question about that. ANY of the current field would be MILES better than Obama!!!

The most liberal Repub would be an improvement.

No question about it. There isn't a Republican we could field that would be even a tenth as bad as Obama.

By the way, the fact that Cain won the Republican Women's straw poll in Kansas City made the NBC evening news this evening and he has now been bumped into the top tier of candidates.

It's all good. It's also time for a non-career politician.

This notion of the professional politician as being the only person qualified to be president needs to die.
