More of a Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Eric Clapton kinda guy myself...

It's the latest for me. I'm rediscovering them. I saw them in Dallas on their reunion tour in 1985. It was an all day heavy metal festival called Texxas Jam... at the Cotton Bowl stadium.

I've been to a 2 day Reggae festival in Germany. Nothing like good ol' open air concerts!

Re: Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers
Yep. I went to a few of those myself. That Purple show and the Texxas Jam in 1988 with Van Halen (and 5 others). Twice i saw Pink Floyd at Texas Stadium (where the Cowboys played). Saw George Strait there at that stadium 3 times.
I even went to an all day indoor show in Germany; RockPop in Dortmund (1983). That was back before you were an egg.

I would love to see Pink Floyd live. I have the Pulse live DVD and they've gotta put on an amazing show.
I saw the Black Eyed Peas with Ludacris and LMFAO the other day. Very good show too!

I saw them on their reunion tour in Nov. of 1987 at Reunion Arena in Dallas, then again that following during in April of '88 at Texas Stadium. Then they toured again in 1994. Saw them again. That was the tour Pulse was taken from. What you see on that dvd is pretty much how it was.
I'm not, for some reason, into today's bands that much. I like a couple but they're heavy metal. Lamb of God is one.

Yeah, the 94 tour is the Pulse one. It was in London but they're all the same shows, just different locations.
There are a couple of modern bands that I really like and would pay to go see and the Black Eyed Peas are 1 of them. ANother one would be Jack Johnso & John Mayer.

When i saw the 94 tour, they did two nights in Dallas. They changed the set list a bit from the night i saw which was the 1st night. Made me wish i went to both but tickets were $66 back then for that concert. Big money in them days.
Last show i went to was in 2002... the band Kansas in Ft. Worth.

Cold and too many hicks!
Naw, they were good. I'm a fan of them since i was in school. I saw them twice in the early 80's.

Here's a Deep Purple video from their 1993 tour filmed in Birmingham, England.
Interesting video because the guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore, had injured his ankle a week prior and didn't want to film this particular concert. The management wanted (and did) go ahead with it. Blackmore agreed with one condition; no cameras on stage.
On the way up to the concert stage, there was a camera man. The rest of the band made it on and started up the opening number. Blackmore refused to go on till the cameraman was off the stage. Blackmore didn't go on till the first solo of the song. Right at the end of it, he saw that same guy behind the keyboard player, Jon Lord, so he walked over, grabbed a glass of water and threw it on the guy.
After the first song was done, he went off to the side of the stage to switch guitars and there was the guy again. Blackmore threw a glass of beer on him. He finally got off there. Blackmore quit Deep Purple for good a few weeks later (in the middle of the tour no less). They had to recruit Joe Satriani to finish it.
Very good video footage, too. I have this whole show on dvd, btw.

Yeah, I've heard about that before. Really makes you think how close these bands really are if somebody quits over some childish thing like that.

Re: Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers
DP's problem has always been Blackmore. He and the singer never got along except back in 1970 when Gillen joined. Ritchie wanted total control. Brilliant guitarist but kind of an @sshole.

Re: Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers
Seems like every great band has that guy. Good musician, but a real prick.

Re: Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers
Yeah, that was the case here. I can think of plenty of bands that are or were that way.
Btw, the guys in DP were born the same year as my parents (1945). Brings me up a notch. The keyboard guy retired in 2002. He'll be 70 next year. Yeesh.

Pete Townshend was born in 1945 and he still got it! Did you see the Superbowl halftime show?

Re: Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers
Yep, i saw that. They didn't sound all that great but they were good. The sound was the result of putting the stage/sound systems up without doing sound checks.
I'm a big Who fan.

Re: Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers
Pete definitely brought the house down! He's an amazing guitar player, one of the best out there.
