United we do not stand

Hey everybody, President Obama set another record!

In addition to adding more debt in the shortest time than any president ever; an unemployment rate above 8 percent for 40 months (first time since the Great Depression); and the highest percentage of Americans on food stamps Obama now has Americans more politically polarized than at any time since we started keeping records!

And people say Barack Obama doesn’t have a record of accomplishment . . .

Here’s how Pew Research reports it:

“As Americans head to the polls this November, their values and basic beliefs are more polarized along partisan lines than at any point in the past 25 years . . . when this series of surveys began.”

The Obama Era has us so divided that, for the first time “the values gap between Republicans and Democrats is now greater than gender, age, race or class divides,” Pew Research finds.

How bad is it? Just check out Wisconsin.

A state once known mainly for cheese, beer and an over-achieving NFL franchise, Wisconsin’s “Midwestern nice” has given way to maniacal, partisan nastiness.

At a rally on Sunday, the Rev. Jesse Jackson compared Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker to segregationist George Wallace. Larry Hanley, head of the Amalgamated Transit Union, compared Walker’s pension reform policies to the 9/11 terror attacks. Union supporters have stormed the capital building and Republican officials have been threatened at their own homes.

Meanwhile, down in Taos, N.M., Roy Cunnyng- ham came home to find signs for a local Democratic candidate in his front yard. Not a supporter, he took the signs down — then was beaten up by the candidate’s supporters. “They just attacked him, all three of them,” his wife told reporters. He was treated for a concussion.

Folks, this is the first week of June. What’s it going to be like by the time we get to the first Tuesday in November?

Why are people so angry? Part of it is the atmosphere — the economy still stinks, some people haven’t worked in a long while and those with jobs wonder every day if they’ll have one tomorrow. All this tension makes us testy.

Having said that, Obama is also partially responsible. After three long years of us-vs.-them politics, is it really a surprise that Americans are more divided than ever?

I’m not just talking the president’s current class-warfare campaign, which is by its very nature a polarizing message. Obama has been a “divide-and-conquer” guy from the get-go.

Do you remember the debate over Obamacare? What should have been a legitimate policy dispute turned into a full-throated attack on the opponents themselves. When Obama referred to Tea Party opponents of Obamacare as “extremists,” that wasn’t a debating point. That was an attack.

Speaking of attacks, the White House is still running “AttackWatch,” asking supporters to keep an eye on what their neighbors are emailing and Facebooking about Obama. In Wisconsin, Obama’s allies went so far as to mail out people’s voting histories to their neighbors, so the lady next door would know what you’ve been up to, politically.

With the Obama left waging an all-out war on the character of their political opposition, should we be surprised that America is more polarized than ever? What has Obama done to unite us?

As president, George W. Bush rarely attacked Democrats as a group and almost never by name.

A few weeks ago, the Obama re-election campaign posted the names of large Romney donors on a new website, along with attacks against these private citizens’ business and political activities. Private citizens, not seeking any office or appearing in any ads. Under attack from the President of the United States.

Or perhaps more accurately, the “dis-united” states.
