He told his audience Republicans, including presumptive presidential nominee Mitt Romney, “believe that we should go back to the top-down economics of the last decade.”
“They figure that if we simply eliminate regulations and cut taxes by trillions of dollars, then the market will solve all of our problems,” Obama said.
“They argue that if we help corporations and wealthy investors maximize their profits by whatever means necessary — whether through layoffs or outsourcing or union-busting — that it will automatically translate into jobs and prosperity that benefit all of us. …
“We don’t need more top-down economics,” he said. “What we need is some middle class-out economics, some bottom-up economics.”

Obama is an idiot! An intellectual midget!
This fucking moron has not a single CLUE about even basic economics.
When will these idiots learn that a command economy is a fucking historical FAILURE???
Haven't these leftist lemmings read even a single freaking history book???

he's right ya know.
The free-wheeling loosy-goosy philosophies that screwed up things like AIG need to be controlled.
Ya gotta throw some regulations on people to keep things in order.
This whole idea of a "do whatever you want" society is what is ruining the country and sadly people fall for it because that's all they've been told for a good chunk of the last 30 years
At some point people are gonna have to control this out of control country--and we know Romney won't do it.
Regulations should NOT exist.
They are there to prevent irresponsible behavior.
You shouldn't have to tell people to be responsible. It should be a given.
The govt. does not want to put regulations on corporations to keep them in line. The corporations need it because they have no sense of accountability or responsibility. Then when the govt. goes into a corporation to keep them in line, the public says "the govt. is out of bounds again!" when in reality it's the horrible management of the company that caused it.

You cannot be serious NP. Do you have even the remotest attachment to reality???
To call our current regulatory environment "freewheeling loosy goosy" is such a blatant denial of reality that one can only hope that are practicing extreme hyperbole here, otherwise I fear you may need to seek professional help.
Just our federal regulatory burdens are so MASSIVE that it costs the private sector HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to comply with them!!!
The physical size of the Federal Register is so massive that if it fell on you it would kill you!
We have so many MILLIONS of regulations that there is scarcely a single aspect of our lives, personal or business related, that is not governed by federal regulations.
)
I do not know where you're living, but here in the real world federal regulations have run amok

The "historical failure" comment is what gets me laughing
I admit I have not crammed my head with world history but I am sure that most every time somebody has attempted this type of govt. is based solely on desire to have it that way.
Don't confuse that with this country at this time.
This country at this time needs some serious constraints. It's way overboard with its attitude and needs to be restrained before it's too late
The strategy that this nation has regarding issues is a total disgrace. It has horrible economics, it has no value, and people hate us around the world for our ignorance and attitude (and you all say "hey let's just keep it going like this!")
"federal regulations have run amok"
And your idea is to what? eliminate these things...BIG MISTAKE!
It's like asking the firefighters in Colorado to leave and let the wild fire burn out of control.
Firefighters = restraint and regulations
Fire = USA thinking
You wanna get rid of the firefighters or not have them? Fine. But how do you deal with the things that are out of control?

And therein lies your problem NP, you have NOT crammed your head with world history or you would already have realized that there has never been a country like America in the entire history of mankind!
That governments fail is an historical given. That we became as free, prosperous and powerful as America had is unprecedented - and that we accomplished that in the span of a mere 150 years is simply miraculous.
But we've tossed all that in the shitter the very moment leftists gained significant footholds in our houses of congress and our federal bureaucracy and began pushing their socialist agenda in earnest! Leftists realized their first MAJOR win with the election of that "progressive" Woodrow Wilson, who gave us the Marxist "progressive" income tax and the 17th Amendment which turned the election of Senators into just another fucking beauty pageant!
This was followed up by FDR, LBJ, Carter and Clinton, ALL of whom forwarded even more of the leftist/socialist agenda (Kennedy didn't have time to, what with his being killed in office so soon).
Sadly, the very forces at work that made our country great - constitutional republicanism, free-market capitalism and the rule of law not man - ALL of these have been under an unrelenting attack in the last century or so by leftist know-it-alls who believe that socialism (DESPITE it's unbroken record of failures) is the only way to go.

I swear NP, it's as though you have no fucking clue about what is ACTUALLY going on in the world around you and that your only connection to it is from FAR left blogs and websites.
I can GUARANTEE that you have done ZERO due diligence on your own, have investigated NOTHING on the issues you impertinently pass judgement on, and are merely parroting the "party" line like an obedient leftist myrmidon.
This country, the forces that had made it so incredibly successful, HAVE BEEN PUT IN A FREAKING STRAITJACKET FOR THE LAST 100 YEARS!!!!
Don't you EVER visit a government website, have you never perused the federal register??? Do you have ANY FREAKING IDEA of just how many MILLIONS of laws, rules, and regulations there are that govern EVERY SINGLE FUCKING ACT OF MAN in this country???
We have ENTIRE FUCKING INDUSTRIES that have sprung up just to deal with federal regulations!!!!
How many more regulations do we fucking need??? Hell, we don't even enforce the ones we have now thanks to crony capitalists on the Hill!!!
We do NOT need more regulations, we need much, MUCH less, and then we need honest fucking politicians who will ENFORCE the laws on the books and not seek to bend them to their favor or political interest!!!
Your point of view is what comes from a complete ignorance of the actual facts on the ground. I suggest you log off from your leftist websites, climb out of your mother's basement, and emerge into the REAL world and look around at the utter destruction that leftist policies have wreaked on our country, economy and people!

First of all, firefighting is a STATES ISSUE!!! Honestly kiddo, do you not know ANYTHING about our system of government???
And NO ONE has suggested that we sink into anarchy and eliminate all laws and regulations, that is just a pathetic rhetorical fallacy, a false dichotomy.
I am quite fine with reasonable laws, rules and regulations - they are an absolute necessity in a civil society. But what we have today is so far from reasonable as to be absolutely INSANE!!!
Our founders went to WAR against the most powerful nation on earth (at the time) for FAR FUCKING LESS than what we are suffering under today.
At this point, we are little more than slaves to the all powerful federal government!!!
And if you don't get that, then you are a person to be pitied.
More government is NOT the answer to our current woes, ESPECIALLY not more CRONY SOCIALIST government.
You need to wake from your deep slumber kiddo, you need to wake up and smell the asphalt - you've been run down, we've ALL been run down, by a rampantly out-of-control federal government that is seizing our rights and liberties in ever larger swaths. Soon, we will have no liberty at all.
Would THAT make you happy?
