U.S. Refused Help on Oil Spill
So, you'd think if someone is willing to handle the clean-up with equipment and technology not available in the U.S., and finishes the job in shorter time than the current estimate, the U.S. should jump on the offer. Right? Quite the opposite.
According to Foreign Policy, 13 offered the U.S. assistance with the oil spill within about two weeks of the rig explosion. They were the gov'ts of Canada, Croatia, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Romania, S. Korea, Spain, Sweden, the UK and the UN.
The U.S. response? Thank you, but no thank you. We've got it.

Ooooops!
I wonder though, would Obama have been allowed to make that decision on his own or would he have to get Congress to approve it? I mean, this is also going to fall on his arse along with all the other stuff but with something as big as that, could he have taken the decision alone?

He could've signed an executive order to temporarily halt the Jones Act. That act prevents what these companies wanted to do. Executive orders happen often for various things from president to president.
It was a dumb move on his part.

Yes and we are all going to pay the price. I'm still angry at the other oil companies for seemingly not offering to help and putting petty market oneupmanship above what is right.

Ahhh, but i didn't get my info from Fox and Friends. But here's now the latest from the Washington Post (hardly a bastion of conservatism).
After delays, U.S. begins to tap foreign aid for gulf oil spill

4 week laters, they said in that article.
Btw, Media Matters is the left's version of Media Research Center... which keeps an eye on left wing programs/hosts/etc.

Are they stopping the leak or just using a straw to suck it up to a boat for collection?

Didn't it start gushing again last night after a submarine hit it?
Re: U.S. Refused Help on Oil Spill
Yes, but I read that they got the cap back on today. This is turning into a comedy of errors, sadly.

Once the relief well is finished, they'll be able to cap it for good. Last weekend, they were 2,000 feet from tapping into where they want to get to.

It was one of their robots that hit it. It bent something and they had to uncap the cap to fix it. Bad and bad but it had to be done.
