Arizona's immigration law Empty Arizona's immigration law

I don't get why judges are blocking this law from going into effect. News articles say that the judge diffused some angry people against this law...well, what about the people (like the Arizona governor and me) that are for it? This decision has made the opponents happy but made us upset.

The federal govt is not doing anything about fence climbers (and even if they were doing something about it, they would do the same thing)

Opponents of the law (including the President and Dept. of Homeland Security) contend that only the federal government -- not individual states -- can govern immigration and make laws regarding it. The judge didn't block the whole law, just the most contentious parts (a part regading hiring illegal immigrants still stands, for example). But don't hold your breath; this is far from over. It will likely go to the supreme court eventually, and the earliest they can hear it is October because they're in recess now. Next stop for the law will be the 9th circuit court.

It's mostly an injunction, instead of a ruling. This judge could have very well ruled it unconstitutional. I haven't read her ruling yet. I heard it's 32 pages.

I can say this though. Many people are pissed off at this whole thing to start with. The Fed, for some strange reason, refuses to to enforce the law as it's written. It failed to do so under Bush I, Clinton, Bush II and it's failing under Obama. Economics plays a big part of this. Many people are out of work and many illegals have jobs. Many cities are struggling to cut budgets and illegals are recipients of some things in this regard.

All i want is the Fed to enforce the damn law. If this would be done, this AZ law never would've even seen light of day much less thought of.

This issue isn't over, as alluded to above. It's a hot issue with many people in this country. In fact, it's a steaming pot that's ready to boil over.

Since the injunction, the judge has received hundreds of threats, and Democratic politician closed his office after someone fired a bullet through a window. Ya don't see liberals doing this sort of stuff to protest against things.

Oh c'mon... are you really trying to equate a pie in the face, graffiti, and throwing a shoe and salad dresing with firing a bullet through a window and death threats...? You can do better than that.

Okay... let's just assume this guy's a liberal. He pushed somebody's wife, and if it were me I'd be plenty p'd-off, but by the same token conservatives bomb abortion clinics and murder doctors who perform abortions, then there's the bombing of the Murrah Building in Oaklahoma City. Pushing somebody's wife seems pretty tame in comparrison.

ETA: take a look at this article. It says it a lot better than I can:

Yes, and you'd still be wrong. Very Happy Okay... that sign calling for the murder of Bush is inexcusable and a crime. But I gotta say, that is still rather tame compared to the actions of some conservatives. Carrying a sign and committing violence are 2 very different things.
