Good suggestion for a formal debate perhaps?

January is a wash out but February is just around the corner. And there are enough people on both sides to argue either way.

I agree... that would be a good topic for February's formal debate.

Are you willing to write an essay saying "NOT A RIGHT" Tex? You won't be short of opponents willing to argue "IS A RIGHT".

Not sure if I could make a cognizant argument on this. I'm the kind of guy that knows what he wants to say but sometimes that gets lost in the translation to a post. You all should know that by now.

I think Dbl would be a good candidate on this. He also has read the bill that the Dems passed here. I have read only parts of it.

You do yourself an injustice Tex. I'm sure you could put together a decent argument, and you'd have a whole week (if not more) to edit it and chop and change until you had an essay you were happy with.

I'd rather not, based on what I said. I also had this thing set up so as to be the mod on it.

It should be natural rights, like those rights discussed in our founding documents.

Natural rights, after all laws and social ideology differ from country to country. What might be true in the USA regarding the legality of socialised healthcare is irrelevant in the rest of the world.

If anybody fancies this subject as a formal debate, by all means propose it in the relevant section. I'm sure there will be no shortage of people willing to argue on either side.

After the 30 day poll voting period, it's moved into the relevant category (politics, religion, etc).

I'm wondering whether we could be creating a ghost thread where the thread is moved to a new section but the title remains in Formal Debates but with only a message saying. "This thread has been moved. Click here to redirect"

Yeah, we can do that. When moving a thread, we have a mod option to keep a ghost in place.
